Travel Dates: TBA

The purpose of this short-term study abroad program in Chile is to enhance student preparation for professional social work practice within the context of global interdependence, international social work practice, and practice with diverse populations in the United States. Broadening our worldview as social workers leads to a deeper understanding of global human rights, community resilience, and systemic challenges. Through readings, agency visits, interactions with academic institutions, and immersive cultural excursions, participants will examine Chile’s unique social systems and policy landscape. The program encourages students to critically analyze social work frameworks and social welfare structures in Chile alongside those in the United States. By comparing these micro-, mezzo-, and macro-level practice realities to the U.S. context, students will develop a nuanced understanding of social justice, policy implementation, and rights-based social work across international settings.
