Equity and Disparities

Current Research Topics

Aging and Gerontology

We are committed to understanding the complexities of aging and advancing wellbeing for older adults. Our research explores how health, policy, family systems, and community supports intersect to influence quality of life as people age. By studying issues such as health disparities, social isolation, and care access, we inform practices and policies that empower older adults to maintain dignity, independence, and connection throughout their lives.

Culturally Relevant and Trauma-Informed Practice

Our team investigates how cultural context and trauma shape experiences within families, communities, and systems. We develop and evaluate approaches that recognize cultural strengths while addressing the impact of trauma—ensuring care is both sensitive and effective. Through collaboration with diverse populations, we strive to create interventions and environments that promote healing, resilience, and a sense of belonging for all individuals.

Equity and Disparities

We seek to understand the ways social differences influence access to resources, health, education, and opportunities within communities. Our research delves into the origins of inequity, examining how various systems and structures contribute to unequal outcomes. By developing evidence-based solutions and working alongside community partners, we aim to advance fairness and help all individuals reach their full potential.

Rural Communities

We focus on the unique strengths and challenges faced by people living in rural areas. Our research examines barriers to healthcare, education, economic opportunity, and social services in these communities—while highlighting local assets and innovative solutions. By partnering with rural residents and organizations, we work to design programs that reduce disparities, expand resources, and promote thriving rural communities across generations.
