Course Description

Increasing Your awareness and importance of Self Care by diving deep into practical considerations impacting the mental, emotional and physical health of social workers as they face an increasing demand across the spectrum of the helping profession. We will explore stages, risks and symptoms associated with burn out and opportunities to self assess and step away with a healthier outlook of one’s own mental, emotional and physical health.  In summary, we will discuss the importance and further explore tools needed for the development, enhancement and implementation of a self care recovery plan.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Practice personal reflection and self-correction to assure continual professional development through practical ethical principles, exploring practice informed research and research informed practice as it relates to statistics about the professional risks of burn out of helping professionals and social work identity;
  2. Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior, appearance and communication through the engagement and application of self-care tools through understanding,  development and implantation of a self-care recovery plan; and
  3. Demonstrate and establish professional roles and boundaries assuring work/life balance when identifying risks associated with burn out and the correlation between an increase in one’s mental, emotional and physical health.

CEUs

Participants are eligible to earn 2 CEUs.

About the Presenter

Lakeisha Conway headshot

Lakeisha Conway is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), who has a sincere passion for and commitment to providing clinical supervision and mentoring support to the next generation of social work psychotherapists. She was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee.  Mrs. Conway holds a bachelor’s in social work degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (Memphis Campus) and is licensed through the State of Tennessee. Mrs. Conway has over 20 years combined experience providing psychosocial case management services, crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, supportive counseling, bio-psychosocial assessing, therapeutic counseling, discharge planning, care coordination, mental health and dual diagnosis treatment, diagnosing (according to the DSM-5) and social work clinical supervision.

Mrs. Conway remains a practicing Social Worker within VHA at the Department of Veteran Affairs; additionally, she’s held an Adjunct Instructor/ Field Liaison position at her esteemed alma mater the University of Tennessee at Knoxville within the College of Social Work since 2014.  Prior to that, she’s served as a Field Instructor for UT Knoxville College of Social Worker in addition to social work programs at Jackson State, Union University, Ole Miss and University of Memphis.  

Mrs. Conway was also recognized as the 2017 Excellence in Field Education Award Recipient for the UTK College of Social Work and highlighted by the College of Social Work as a CSW 2017 75 Social Work Challenger Honoree.  In 2021, Mrs. Conway fulfilled one of her remaining professional goals opening her private practice Best Practice Supervision, Coaching & Consulting LLC which offers valuable support to clinical professionals.  She thoroughly enjoys collaborating with BSW &  MSW programs, social work students, practicing social workers and other helping professionals by advocating and providing access to networking opportunities and community engagement.
