Founded in 1942, the UT College of Social Work has a long history of facing challenges with courage, confidence and compassion.
Now, perhaps more than ever before, the College is bringing these values to our state and region. More than 40% of Master’s level social workers in the state of Tennessee are our graduates. Our alumni direct and staff community mental health centers, domestic violence shelters, family service agencies, hospitals, and schools. Their work illustrates the vital importance of social work education.
The support of our alumni and friends is essential to our mission. There are many ways to give. A gift to the College Fund for Social Work provides scholarships, helps us to recruit and retain outstanding faculty, and allows us to respond to immediate needs. Alumni of our Nashville program may wish to give to the College of Social Work Nashville fund. Our giving page offers a variety of options.
Every gift, large or small, makes a difference. Please help us to build on our tradition of excellence in social work education and to make that education possible for the next generation of social workers.
Thank you and go Vols!

Donors Share Their Stories
The William Steven Inklebarger Scholarship
There’s a story behind the William Steven Inklebarger Scholarship. It’s a story of courage and determination and the power of education to change lives. Above all, it is the story of a family’s legacy and their proud tradition of service.
Dona and Bob Diftler: Creating A Legacy
As a child, two things were clear to Dona Diftler. She wanted to be a counselor, to make a difference in people’s lives. And she enjoyed giving gifts more than she liked receiving them.

The Impact of Giving
Your gift changes lives. Scholarships make a university degree possible for students who never dreamed they could achieve such a goal. The careers they pursue help to create communities where everyone can thrive.
“UT gives us the tools and resources we need as students to learn how to serve through our own fields in our own ways. We all share the common goal of hoping to leave the world better than when we found it.”
