Location
Lewa Children’s Home and Kipkeino School are located in Eldoret Highlands in Western Kenya. Mary Keino is the Managing Director of KipKeino School and MSW Graduate from West Chester University in Pennsylvania. In 1999, Phyllis Keino started the school (Kipkeino School) which is located walking distance from Lewa Children’s Home in order to provide educational opportunities for the children in the Home as well as those in the neighboring communities.
Practicum Activities Lewa Children’s Home: Casework and Management
Look after the well-being and safety of the children at Lewa Children’s home; Develop strong relationships with children, staff, and community partners; Provide basic counseling
and/or psycho-education to children; Assist social worker with maintenance of detailed and accurate records of the children; Monitor and evaluate their progress emotionally and academically through reports that are received from the school and through meetings; Assist social workers with developing comprehensive assessments, such as biopsychosocial assessments, post-secondary assessments, re-integration assessments, etc.
Practicum Activities Kipkeino School
Assist teachers and Lewa Children’s Home social workers with guidance and counseling of students; Assist with the weekly psychoeducational program “Little Lions” for students with social workers and teachers; Potentially assist in the classroom
