Tammy Modic started at the UTCSW in February 2023 as the Advancement and Alumni Relations Coordinator.

What does your job entail?
As Advancement and Alumni Relations Coordinator, my job entails working with Stephanie Piper to help raise funds for the College of Social Work. I am in charge of Annual Giving which consists of Big Orange Family, Big Orange Give, Senior Impact, and more. Under the Alumni Relations portion of my job, I am involved with setting up events for our alumni both in the Knoxville and Nashville areas as well as other locations where we have a higher concentration of alumni. Meeting and getting to know our alumni throughout the year is also an integral part of my role.

What is your favorite part of the job and/or favorite part of UT?
My favorite part of my job is the people! I have met so many amazing people in such a short time. From coworkers who are dedicated to making the College of Social Work the best it can be, to other Advancement coworkers who have been so helpful in making sure I have the resources I need to be the best I can be, to the amazing alumni I have met.

What do you like best about living and working in the Knoxville area?
The weather! Having moved from Rhinelander, Wisconsin which is 45 minutes from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and 2 hours from Canada, it sure is a change. Last winter Rhinelander received 120 inches of snow, a record for them. So, when you see me breaking out my flip flops again in February you know I am celebrating not being around snow.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?
Believe it or not I have run two half marathons and one marathon and have run up the 1,236 steps of the Hancock Building in Chicago three times. All of these have taught me to never say never!

Anything else you’d like to add?
It’s hard to believe it has already been a year since I moved to TN and started at the College of Social Work.  I still love my job and am enjoying the adventures of TN with my husband Marko.
