Q & A with Natalie Crippen

Natalie Crippen

How long have you worked at the College of Social Work?
I have worked at the UT College of Social Work for nearly 20 years. Time has flown by. I cannot believe it has been that long!

What does your job entail?
My job consists mostly of supporting the Knoxville MSSW program. I appreciate working with the MSSW Program Director Ragan Schriver, and especially enjoy meeting and working with the Knoxville students. Orientation and the start of the school year is such an exciting (and busy) time, and it always gives me a feeling of a fresh start when the new students arrive. I know they are nervous so I try to help and reassure them as much as possible.

What is your favorite part of the job and/or favorite part of UTCSW?
The students are definitely my favorite part of the job. It’s nice to celebrate their successes and to know that I might have played a role in helping them to achieve their goals. The MSSW students are usually only here for two years, so seeing their accomplishments from orientation to graduation is very inspiring and is truly what my job is all about.

What do you like best about living and working in Knoxville?
The best part of Knoxville for me is that my family is nearby. Additionally, the landscape is beautiful and the people are nice. I feel very lucky to live in a city I love, while working at a job I love. Knoxville will always be home sweet home.
