SWORPS Deidre Ford Spent Summer in South Africa as a Fulbright Specialist Award Recipient

The U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board recently announced that Deidre Ford received a Fulbright Specialist Program award. Ford worked to complete a project at the Tshwane Leadership Foundation that aims to exchange knowledge and establish partnerships benefitting participants, institutions, and communities both in the U.S. and overseas through a variety of educational and training activities within the field of social work.

“I have had the good fortune of being selected as a Fulbright Specialist for a six-week project in South Africa,” Ford said. “I’ll be collaborating with partners at Tshwane Leadership Foundation in Pretoria, South Africa, to work with their data systems for individuals experiencing homelessness in the Tshwane/Pretoria urban area. I’m excited about this opportunity to participate in such important work.”

Ford is one of over 400 U.S. citizens who share expertise with host institutions abroad through the Fulbright Specialist Program each year. Recipients of the awards are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement, demonstrated leadership in their field, and their potential to foster long-term cooperation between institutions in the U.S. and abroad.
