Veterans and Military
The University of Tennessee, College of Social Work, actively recruits veterans to continue to engage in meaningful roles beyond their military service. Military training provides vital skills that are often needed in the social work profession. Our programs’ versatility allows for leadership development in both the clinical practice arena and organizational management or advocacy positions.

Social work is an excellent way for returning veterans to “leave no soldier behind” (Dan Lapinski) here on the home front. We offer training and career opportunities for veterans to be supportive of each other and to provide resources to help fellow warriors heal and reintegrate into new and better civilian lives.

A Yellow Ribbon College
The Yellow Ribbon Program is part of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, and eligibility for the benefit at the College of Social Work is open to MSSW or DSW graduate students in good standing.

Trauma-Informed Certificate Program with a Military Focus
As part of our MSSW program, we offer a Trauma Certificate with a Military Social Work focus, allowing students to study trauma’s effects on the brain and its neuro-scientific consequences. As a result, we are able to study and apply cutting-edge, evidence-based interventions and related best practices.
We also offer a postgraduate trauma certificate option.
