Staff spotlight – Michele Griffin

Michele Griffin started at UTCSW on September 29 and will serve as the new HR Specialist for the college.

What does your new job entail?
As the CSW HR Specialist, I will be primarily assisting the CSW and their research centers with their staff recruitment efforts such as writing job descriptions; compensation analyses; position searches; managing new hire paperwork and personnel files; and the onboarding and offboarding of staff. I will additionally be processing Family Medical Leave and Paid Parental Leave requests.

What do you think will be (is) your favorite part of the job?
I’m looking forward to developing strong, working relationships with the CSW faculty and staff and other UTK departments such as the HR department.

You recently moved back to the Knoxville area for this job. Can you tell us where you were and what you were doing before moving back?
I previously worked at the Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership, which is a four-year medical school located on the University of Georgia Health Sciences Campus. The school had its first class in 2010, and I was hired in 2009 as one the first administrative support staff to assist in the establishment of the medical school. It was through this unique opportunity that I discovered the world of human resources and soon after, I applied to the graduate school at the University of Georgia to obtain a master in personnel management. My previous work experiences are what led me to the exciting human resources position here at the CSW. Plus, I was raised in East Tennessee and received my undergraduate degree at UTK, so my blood truly runs red AND orange!

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
It’s an honor to be a part of the CSW team, and I can’t wait to start exploring the beautiful city of Knoxville and the great state of Tennessee again. All in all, it’s good to be home!
