Trauma-Informed Advocacy: Including the Client Voice – Amy R. Shipp, LCSW

AM Breakouts – 90 minutes

Presenter Pronouns: she/her

OVERVIEW
Youth who have been trafficked, along with their non-offending caregivers, are often challenging to engage in trauma-focused evidence-based services. In addition, these youth and families may have a broad array of needs including basic housing and transportation, mental health services, medical services, legal assistance, and educational support. During this session, victim advocates will explore the importance of including client voice as a trauma-informed principle in service delivery, from assessment to resource connection to partner collaboration.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
As a result of attending this presentation, participants will:

1. Compare traditional advocacy services to CSEC-specific advocacy services;

2. Apply a trauma-informed lens to assessment and service planning for youth who have been trafficked; and

3. Discuss the components of system navigation and the role of victim advocacy within a multidisciplinary approach.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Social workers and other helping professionals serving as victim advocates or those who are interested in a trauma-informed advocacy approach with youth who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation.
