UTCSW PhD Students Kenyette Garrett and Chesney Ward were awarded the 2024 Initiative for Cross-Institutional Student Collaboration grant for the project entitled Count on Me: An exploration of the factors that shape perceptions of social support among Black women in social work research doctoral programs. They were recognized at the GADE Annual Reception at the 2024 Society of Social Work and Research (SSWR) Annual Conference in Washington, DC.

The Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work Board of Directors noted how impressed they were with Garrett and Ward’s proposal and its implications for social work doctoral education. The PhD students look forward to engaging with colleagues to develop strategies to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion in social work doctoral programs.
